Handicaps and Scoring System at Outings
Under Review
GnTs has its own Handicap System that is initially based on players GI handicap, and is so for new members, but accommodates members who no longer actively play in a club and do not have a GI handicap.
First outing of the year [this year the Clontarf Outing for the purposes of the new scoring regime ] nobody has penalty points deducted. The deductions are applied at the subsequent outing e.g. Lisheen, this year.
Singles Stableford Competitions, after the first outing of the year, cumulative penalty points gained in previous outings, if you have been in 1, 2 or 3 position, will be applied to your actual score to get your adjusted score applicable on that day.
1st place = 3 penalty points; 2nd place = 2 penalty points and 3rd place = 1 penalty point. These apply in the next outing. If you don’t feature in the top three thereafter you are penalised 1 point less at each subsequent outing. If you miss outings the penalty points are carried over and await your next play date.
However, if you continue to feature in the Top 3 your penalty count will accumulate.
Category prizes are not penalised. The system does not apply in Team events or Matchplay Competitions where members will play off their current Club Handicap. Those who aren’t Golf Club members will be given a Handicap, based on observation / previous history etc.
