What are alignments? Ah, the age-old question. In Dungeons & Dragons, alignments are how you can broadly explain what your character's morals and attitudes are. While character alignments can be shown and made concrete through action, deities in Dungeons & Dragons typically embody their alignment. They can be a beacon of how their worshippers should act. It is recommended that if a character worships a deity, they are in the same alignment, over very close.
For this catalog, the deity's alignment is located next to their description in both the domain and pantheon sections.
DND Beyond offers some explanations for alignments, and I have provided some examples from various sources (see citation):
"Lawful good (LG) creatures can be counted on to do the right thing as expected by society" (DNDBeyond). A classic example of an LG character is Superman.
"Neutral good (NG) folk do the best they can to help others according to their needs" (DNDByond). Some examples are Harry Potter and Luke Skywalker.
"Chaotic good (CG) creatures act as their conscience directs, with little regard for what others expect" (DNDBeyond). Robin Hood can be considered CG.
"Lawful neutral (LN) individuals act in accordance with law, tradition, or personal codes" (DNDBeyond). Joseph Dredd from the Judge Dredd comics and Captain Picard from Star Trek are examples of a LN character.
"Neutral (N) is the alignment of those who prefer to steer clear of moral questions and don't take sides, doing what seems best at the time" (DNDBeyond). Bystanders are often true neutral as they tend to act on the situation at hand.
"Chaotic neutral (CN) creatures follow their whims, holding their personal freedom above all else" (DNDBeyond). An example of a CN character is Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean.
"Lawful evil (LE) creatures methodically take what they want, within the limits of a code of tradition, loyalty, or order" (DNDBeyond). We've got Darth Vader from Star Wars as an example here.
"Neutral evil (NE) is the alignment of those who do whatever they can get away with, without compassion or qualms" (DNDBeyond). An example of NE is Commander Zhao from Avatar: The Last Airbender.
"Chaotic evil (CE) creatures act with arbitrary violence, spurred by their greed, hatred, or bloodlust" (DNDBeyond). Classic example? The Joker from the Batman comics.
