MY SURVIVAL KIT
Part of effective classroom management can be a survival kit for a teacher. A survival kit contains tools and techniques which help you meet challenges. It is, therefore, a powerful tool in the hands of a teacher.
As Shelly S. Terrell points out in her 30 Goals Challenge for Teachers (p. 64), what a teacher includes in her survival kit depends on her students, situations and challenges she anticipates to face. My survival kit has been adapted according to situations in which I may have no access to the internet in some of the classrooms I teach. It also takes into account situations when my students may need some sort of change from the ordinary because they may be tired, may have finished earlier than others and so on. Based on these situations my survival kit consists of an ipad, puppets, magazine pictures, a flash drive, a die, stationery, writing prompts, a bell, stickers and a camera.
