18 - Paint / Decals

As the goal of this Jeep was to produce a 'high motorpool' restoration, it was the intent to mark this Jeep as a jeep belonging to the I&R platoon of the 60th Infantry Regiment, of the 9th Infantry Division. This would include unit markings on the bumper as well as markings present from production.

While the American army standards for marking equipment (AR 850-5) determined how vehicles were to be marked, research shows the 9th Infantry division, as a whole, marked their vehicles in a unique fashion. Rather than have the four groups of information spread evenly on the length of the front bumper, the division grouped the entire unit marking on the passenger side of the bumper.

In the structure of a standard American Infantry Unit, the I&R platoon was assigned to the Regimental HQ unit, along with the Company Headquarters and Communications Platoon.

Vehicles assigned to this company were assigned the unit markings as follows:

9-60-I-HQ#

Vehicle numbers ranged from 1 to 26 to encompass all vehicles within the company, with Headquarters assigned to the first 6 numbers, the communications following with numbers 7 to 19, and the I&R Platoon taking numbers 20 to 26.
