This project was undertaken over the course of a semester. The project was a culmination of using and analyzing various instructional design theories. It was developed over a unit I use every year as a teacher - South Asia. The curriculum map was developed off of existing traditional materials, but changed to include and integrate educational technology strategies.
In order to develop this curriculum map I worked independently to collect resources and to integrate technology into existing content. I consulted with colleagues on what they thought would work best, but this was purely anecdotal and not formal at all. This curriculum map was a challenge, but ultimately it taught me how to blend technology into learning without losing traditionally successful pedagogy.
The most important phase of this project was finding a unit of study that I was familiar with so that I could integrate technology without sacrificing the benefits of the existing curriculum. In order to do this, I would pilot some of the activities with my class as I came up with the unit. The curriculum map took roughly one semester to develop.
The end result is a project that I am proud of. It contributed to the larger annual curriculum that my department at work uses every year, and has now increased the amount of technology our students are using. This projected helped me become a better educator and contributed to my experience as a grad student in a positive way. I am thankful for the experience in learning how to appropriately integrate technology into a curriculum unit.
