“In football, the result is an impostor. You can do things really, really well but not win. There's something greater than the result, more lasting - a legacy.”
Xavi Hernandez
PURPOSE STATEMENT
The coaching staff is working to not only build a successful soccer program that competes for the playoffs and state-championships, but also to shape student-athletes into young men of integrity, character and hard-work. We are working to forge a team that pursues things bigger than any individual. Wins. In life and on the pitch. Together.
Andrew Syed - Head Coach
I have been coaching at the high school level for 10+ years. Before that, I was an active coach with both of my sons in club soccer. I have coached at Arrupe Jesuit, Golden, and Alameda International before coming to Green Mountain.
I was born in England and grew up there and in Germany before coming to the USA when I was 11. I do mourn the loss of my accent. I had the opportunity to play the game in communities around the world and I believe that soccer (football) is really the world’s game and has so much to teach us all about so many facets of life. I love coaching and love contributing to the lives of young athletes.
I have two grown sons, one who lives locally with his new family and the other living in L.A. pursuing his film-making dreams. I also now have two very new little ones known as grandkids, though no way do I feel that old nor am I used to that title.
I have an international humanitarian / human rights professional background and am beginning a job as the Executive Director at The Conflict Center here in Denver. I enjoy playing music, acting, and writing when not coaching. As a Brit, I cheer for England in all international competitions, by the way! Someday, the cup will come home!
Ryan Ellerby - JV Coach
I was practically born into a jersey, and have been enjoying soccer ever since. Played travel for Woodstock United across New York State for 12 years, as well as for Saugerties Junior/Senior Highschool. Started for Hampshire College in the YSCC Division all 4 years and was captain for 2 years. After moving to Colorado in 2019, I trained with Denver FC and later found a home at Colorado Rovers FC before injury setbacks in 2023. I have since continued to love the sport from off the pitch, and look forward to helping develop the skills and character of Green Mountain JV Boys Soccer.
Other than paying close attention to the footballing world, I am a Chemist specializing in Environmental and Analytical Chemistry. I enjoy playing Golf, Skateboarding, Snowboarding, Skiing, going to concerts and travelling with my wife, Sophia.
