The science in STEAM typically refers to two major of science:
Natural sciences, including biology, physics, and chemistry.
Formal sciences, of which mathematics is an example, along with logic and statistics.
STEAM is a means (how) and sustainability should be the end-in-mind (why). At least four benefits in embedding sustainability principles into STEM/STEAM programs:
Innovation should be directed toward solving the world's problems.
Systems thinking reduces unintended consequences.
Sustainability already has a robust toolbox.
Employers are looking for people with sustainability knowledge.
