Course Specifics

• Class Times: Wednesdays  4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. EST, Starting June 26th

• Classes will be held on Zoom

• Materials needed: Device with Zoom account

• All people are welcome to join. However, this course is geared toward middle and high schoolers.

Course Description

• This 10-week course is dedicated to teaching the basics of public speaking, one of the most critical skills needed for students to thrive in their career journey. Students will have the opportunity to give speeches and learn from coach evaluations. The course will end with a final competition where students can demonstrate their progress and compete with their peers. If you are looking to develop your speaking skills, this is the class for you!

• Each student will be assigned the role of a conductor, speaker, or evaluator per session. These roles will be changed every meeting, so students will have the opportunity to participate in all aspects of Public Speaking.

  • Conductors: Conductors will be expected to "run" the session. Their job includes:

    • Introducing themselves

    • Introducing the speakers and evaluators of the week

    • Introducing the coach

    • Giving a joke of the day

    • Calling out the speakers and evaluators

    • Closing the session

    • MAKING SURE THERE IS NO AWKWARD SILENCE DURING THE SESSION!

  • Speakers: Speakers will be expected to give a 4-6 minute speech regarding one of the topics of the week.

  • Evaluators: Evaluators will be expected to give feedback on the speeches, offering constructive criticism with a focus on improving speaking habits.
