I least expected this commitment from young children aged 9-14. It all started in 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, which led to a complete lockdown in Uganda.
Since we couldn’t be allowed to congregate in anyway, I and my family chose to start having Sunday Services at home in the sitting room. I could lead the service since I had acted as a catechist before, for I had the Sunday and Daily Missal; and of course the Bible.
When it came to time for reflection on the word of God, I could give chance to everybody to first share what has touched them in the three readings.
Starting with Children, everybody started sharing passionately about what had touched them in the readings while relating their experiences to the contemporary situation. This was amazing!
Since then, this has become a practice which has prevailed to date. Whenever we gather for family prayers especially in the evening, we first reflect on the readings of the day and everybody is always looking forward to this hour where they would be sharing their experiences in relation to the word of God.
It really brings dynamism in approach to family prayer, and when it is time for offering petitions one prays in real concrete situations.
This has really strengthened our family bonds as everybody is concerned about the other and the wellbeing of the entire family.
Truly a family that prays together, stays together.
Family prays Rosary together.
