The workshop was inaugurated by Fr. Roque D’Costa, CSC, Chairman of the Governing Board of the Institute, in the presence of Fr. K.J. Abraham, CSC, a member of the Governing Board and Provincial of the North East Province. Participants came from various schools managed by the four provinces of Holy Cross in India. Frs. K.J. Abraham, Royal Nazareth, Mr. Alan Carvalho, and Dr. Manila Carvalho were the chief resource persons, ensuring that their sessions were informative, interactive, and insightful.
Fr. K.J. Abraham inspired the participants by emphasizing the uniqueness of Holy Cross education, which focuses on the holistic development of children by recognizing the impact of their families on classroom behavior. He also spoke of the vocation and unique role of teachers in shaping not only the academic future of children but also their emotional and spiritual well-being. Fr. Royal Nazareth, CSC, a PhD scholar in Counselling Psychology, addressed the importance and benefits of empathy in education and introduced basic skills that can transform how teachers interact with challenging students.
Three teachers from each province gave presentations on the academic, emotional, and other challenges faced by students in their schools, during a session moderated by Fr. Telespore, CSC. A general consensus emerged that children who struggle often come from troubled families.
On the second day, Mr. Alan Carvalho and Dr. Manila Carvalho served as the chief resource persons. Mr. Alan, who has been with The Times of India group for several decades and is currently a General Manager, and Dr. Manila, founder-principal of Delhi Public School at Bangalore East and recipient of several education awards, shared their personal experiences of balancing family life and building successful careers.
In the afternoon session, moderated by Fr. Royal Nazareth, CSC, participants discussed various strategies for supporting difficult children and ways in which schools and teachers could be upskilled to assist in the process.
At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates were distributed to participants at a ceremony presided over by Fr. Lawrence D’Almeida, CSC, a member of the Governing Board of the Institute. The workshop concluded with hopes from both the Institute and participants for future opportunities to reflect on similarly relevant themes.

The Power of the Rosary: A Journey of Faith and Community
In October 2015, amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, a quiet yet persistent voice stirred within me to pray the Rosary for families struggling in their sacramental journey. I initially confided in my husband, and together we sought counsel from Fathers Herve Morisette and Arul Raj of Holy Cross Family Ministry, Bangalore. With their encouragement, we embarked on a journey that impacted our lives and those around us. We began gathering at Holy Cross to pray the Rosary. What started as a small bud soon blossomed into a community of dedicated Catholic families united in prayer. We began praying the Rosary daily from the 22nd to the 31st of October 2015. As our faith deepened, we continued this practice every Friday. Hearts were lifted, burdens shared, and transformations were palpable as we experienced the divine presence through the intercession of Mother Mary, witnessing signs and miracles along the way.
Despite the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, our prayer community remained strong. Through virtual platforms, our bond grew even stronger, fortified by our shared devotion to the Rosary. Spiritual mentors, particularly Fathers Arul and Roque of the Holy Cross Fathers, provided a ray of hope and kept our zeal alive. When the Holy Cross Fathers relocated, we opened our homes to ensure that the weekly Rosary prayers continued uninterrupted. Each Friday, a different household became a sanctuary where Mother Mary's children gathered in unity and devotion.
This journey has been a beacon of renewal and resilience for us. Our spiritual lives have been revitalized, our family bonds strengthened, and a sense of community nurtured that transcends physical boundaries. We are deeply grateful for the blessing of this journey and for the steadfast guidance of the Holy Cross Fathers, whose initial support ignited a flame that continues to burn brightly. As we look to the future, the lamp lit at Holy Cross, Viveknagar, serves as a symbol—a testament to the enduring power of faith and community. In times of both joy and challenge, the Rosary remains our steadfast companion, a source of solace, strength, and unity.
