Mexico
Since 1987, Family Rosary, Mexico, has sought to participate and contribute to the faith life of the Mexican people. The Rosary is part of religiosity and a very common prayer in the people's daily life since it is a mostly Catholic country. However, its popularity is mainly due to the great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe since Mexico has had the grace of having received the visitation of Mary, Most Holy, in this advocation.
In December, the ministry actively participates in people's different expressions of faith and devotion. The parishes are visited, and the apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe are presented; a girl represents Our Lady of Guadalupe, and at the same time, audio with the story of the apparitions is listened to, then the Rosary is prayed. People attend these events full of faith.
The streets are also filled with joy with the pilgrimages; the matachines dance to the sound of drums with brightly colored costumes and special sandals to give thanks or ask for any need and, above all to show their love and devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe.
People walk and sing verses dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe. They carry thousands of flowers and candles; famous singers and mariachi groups gather at the sanctuary during the night of December 11 and during the day on December 12, though the feast is celebrated the whole month.
All Catholic families have an image of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and many celebrate her with all the neighbors instead of going to the sanctuary. It is a celebration with matachines, the recitation of the Rosary, and food; to give thanks for her love and protection.
Viva, Our Lady of Guadalupe!
