The Peyton Institute for Families at Bangalore has begun collaborating with parents of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). It is very stressful for families raising a child with ASD and they go through many levels of adjustment. It takes a toll on the emotional health of family members, especially parents, at personal and interpersonal levels.
Recognizing this, the Institute has teamed up with Parents’ Movement for Inclusive Development (PMID), a local initiative by parents of autistic children. Meetings happen in outdoor spaces (where children can be most at ease) or in an indoor workshop format. The objective is to help parents and siblings of children with ASD learn to care for each other and build loving, nurturing families together.
