About Mr. Sudip Chakma

Mr. Sudip Chakma was born on 15 November 1977 in Nunsury Village. In 1986, his family relocated to Tuichawng Village in Lunglei District, Mizoram, following the transfer of his father, who served as a Government Primary School Teacher. Raised in a modest yet disciplined household, Mr. Chakma was shaped from an early age by strong values of education, responsibility, integrity, and service to society.

He completed his formal education up to Class VII and later moved to Shillong to pursue further studies. However, severe financial hardship compelled him to discontinue his education and return home. This personal experience of educational disruption left a deep and lasting impact on him, shaping his lifelong concern for children who are deprived of learning opportunities due to poverty and circumstances beyond their control.

Early Teaching Career and Community Engagement

In 1994, Mr. Chakma began his journey of public service as a Volunteer Teacher at the Government Primary School, Diblibagh, where his father was serving as Headmaster. In 1997, due to his father’s advanced age and inability to continue in service, Mr. Chakma applied for the post of Primary School Teacher on compassionate grounds. He was duly appointed and formally joined the Government Primary School at Diblibagh.

Later in 1997, he was transferred to the Government Primary School, Tuichawng, where he has continued to serve with dedication and sincerity. Over the years, his commitment, leadership, and integrity earned him the responsibility of serving as Headmaster In-Charge, a role he continues to discharge with a deep sense of duty and professionalism.

Alongside his formal teaching responsibilities, Mr. Chakma remained deeply engaged with his community. He regularly interacted with elders, assisted families in need, and participated actively in social and educational initiatives, which enabled him to gain a deep understanding of the challenges faced by children and youth in marginalized communities.

Community Leadership, Youth Work, and Socio-Religious Reform

Mr. Chakma served as President of the Zonal Young Chakma Association for three consecutive terms, where he focused on youth development, education, and social awareness. He also served as President of the Young Buddhist Association, through which he sought to promote ethical living and positive socio-religious change within the Chakma Buddhist community of Tuichawng Village.

Through this platform, he initiated awareness and counselling campaigns aimed at discouraging practices he believed were inconsistent with core Buddhist values. In particular, he worked with a group of youth volunteers to counsel families and community members during bereavement periods, encouraging them to replace activities such as gambling and alcohol consumption with Buddhist chanting, prayers, and Dhamma discourses.

Although his efforts were sincere and values-driven, these initiatives did not receive sufficient institutional or community support. In the absence of collective backing, Mr. Chakma respectfully stepped aside from these activities. While personally disappointing, the experience further strengthened his understanding of the complexities of community reform and reinforced his commitment to ethical and patient service.

Religious and Community Institution Leadership

In addition to his youth and social work, Mr. Chakma served as Chairman of the Shanti Niketan Buddhist Temple Management Committee for three consecutive terms. During his tenure, he initiated and led fundraising efforts for the construction and development of the Shanti Niketan Buddhist Temple.

He also extended his voluntary service to other religious and spiritual initiatives. At the request of the founder of the Ariyagiri Vipassana Meditation Centre, located on Ariyagiri Hill in Lunglei District, Mizoram, Mr. Chakma assisted in fundraising efforts for the establishment of the centre. Through his outreach and communication with well-wishers, he contributed to mobilizing financial support for the project.

The Ariyagiri Vipassana Meditation Centre has since been completed and now serves as a place of meditation and spiritual practice. Mr. Chakma considers his contribution to this initiative as a source of deep personal fulfilment and spiritual merit, reflecting his belief in selfless service and the promotion of mindfulness and inner well-being.

Grassroots Social Work in the Early Internet Era

In 1996, Mr. Chakma became closely associated with The Ultimate Truth Preaching Mission and played a key role in its registration and early development. At a time when access to technology was extremely limited, he took personal initiative to establish external communication and fundraising efforts.

During the late 1990s, when internet access first became available in the region, mobile phones were rare and digital literacy was minimal. Mr. Chakma acquired a basic Nokia keypad mobile phone and used the slow 2G internet connection available at the time to write emails, send messages, and communicate with scholars, donors, and humanitarian organizations across India and abroad.

For nearly twenty-five years, often working late into the night, he dedicated himself to building networks, sharing the educational needs of underprivileged children, and mobilizing support for community-based educational initiatives—despite financial hardship and limited resources.

Establishment of Ahimsa English School and Its Transformation

As a result of these sustained efforts, Mr. Chakma initiated the establishment of Ahimsa English School, with the vision of providing quality education to children in and around Tuichawng Village. He was deeply involved in conceptualizing the school, mobilizing support, and facilitating the construction of the school building.

Subsequently, with the receipt of significant financial assistance from the Mahabodhi Society, Bengaluru, the institution underwent further development. Following this support, Ahimsa English School was restructured and formally renamed Mahabodhi Residential School, offering education from Classes I to X.

Mr. Chakma played a central role in building the institution—from initial planning and fundraising to coordination with donors and supporters. His efforts were instrumental in transforming a modest local initiative into a recognized residential educational institution.

Resignation from Mahabodhi Residential School and Organizational Roles

Despite his deep personal investment in the institution, Mr. Chakma gradually became concerned about issues related to governance, transparency, and financial accountability within the organization managing Mahabodhi Residential School. He observed growing irregularities, including the absence of clear audit disclosures and practices that conflicted with his principles of honesty and ethical management.

Guided by his firm opposition to corruption and his belief in transparency and accountability, he made the difficult but principled decision to resign from his roles associated with Mahabodhi Residential School, Tuichawng, including coordination and fundraising responsibilities.

For similar reasons, he also resigned from The Ultimate Truth Preaching Mission, where he had served as General Secretary, Coordinator, and Fundraiser. While his dreams for these institutions were significant, he chose integrity over position, believing that ethical compromise cannot coexist with genuine social service.

Philosophy and Personal Belief

Mr. Chakma believes that social development must be grounded in integrity, compassion, and moral responsibility. While academic qualifications are important, he holds that sincerity, ethical conviction, and perseverance are equally essential for meaningful and sustainable change.

His life experiences have reinforced his belief that service loses its true value when transparency and honesty are compromised.

Formation of Global Compassion Foundation

Reflecting on decades of experience—both achievements and challenges—Mr. Chakma recognized the need for an independent, transparent, and values-driven platform to continue his humanitarian work.

Accordingly, on 1 January 2025, he founded the Global Compassion Foundation, guided by the motto “Compassion in Action.” The Foundation was established to pursue humanitarian, educational, and social development initiatives in a structured, accountable, and inclusive manner.

Present Commitment

Now in his late forties, Mr. Sudip Chakma continues to serve society with humility, resilience, and unwavering commitment. Though his journey has included sacrifice and disappointment, these experiences have only strengthened his resolve to work with integrity and compassion.

Guided by lived experience and a deep belief in ethical service, he remains dedicated to creating opportunities for future generations and to building initiatives rooted in transparency, empathy, and hope.
