My name is Glaiza Liwanag, and I attend Indiana University Indianapolis. I am in the School of Human Health and Science pursuing a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science. I aspire to work within the healthcare system as I have had multiple experiences working with physicians as a patient and a student. As a child in the Philippines, I have encountered many hospitals for several years and although I was unaware at the time, I slowly fell in love with the science behind medicine. I chose exercise science when I was exposed to physical therapy for the first time as I treated lower back pain due to a sciatic nerve. Every session, I learned something new about my body and by watching my physical therapist, I learned many tips and tricks to improve and prevent many injuries. I gravitated to neuroscience and kinesiology and in my senior year of High School, I had the opportunity to shadow a neurologist with a specialty in Sleep Medicine. My experiences and the people I have met encourage me to dedicate myself to service of others and to pursue a lifetime of learning.
