During my junior year of college, I participated in IU's Motor Activity Clinic. This program allowed me to polish and demonstrate my leadership skills as I was able to design a plan to help improve fundamental skills to support children with disabilities. This experience required the ability to portray empathy, patience, adaptability, and effective communication as I learned to tailor my approach with my client. Learning to exercise my leadership was rewarding in this role as I watched my client grow in confidence in engaging in physical activities and social interactions.
As I continued to attend university full time and work part time as a phlebotomist at IU Health, I also attended St. Francis Emergency Medical Technician Program. I decided to take this step to expand and deepen my knowledge of the emergency side of medicine, which ultimately helped me clarify my career goals. Through the program, I had the opportunity to complete shifts at fire stations throughout Indianapolis and interfacility transports, where I gained hands on exposure to patient care in high pressure environments. These experiences inspired me to continue within EMS and pursue a path as a flight medic with the long-term goal of earning an additional degree in nursing as a flight nurse. This program has not only given me practical skills and confidence in emergency care but a clear sense of direction as I plan to take the National Registry exam during the fall semester of my senior year.
According to 5Lovelanguages.com my love language is Acts of Service. I admire the simple acts of kindness that seeks no exchange in return. The willingness to make an effort to make someone's life easier will always be, what I believe, is the purest form of action an individual can make. Many people in my life have shown me acts of service which has inspired me continuously do the same for others.
