Boozhoo (Hello)! Welcome to the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission's Mercury program webpage. Over the past 24 years, GLIFWC has instituted an innovative lake-specific mercury advisory program to help tribal members harvest and consume giigoonh (fish) as part of a healthy and traditional diet.
To promote mino-bimaadiziwin (a good life) for Tribal members, GLIFWC's mercury program has produced lake specific advice for ogga (walleye) and maazhiginoozhe (muskellunge). Consumption advice for both fish species has been compiled into mercury maps (2024).
