Local Rules
Gleneagles Golf Course Local Rules:
Revised Feb 2019
1. As of Mar 1st, if playing on regular greens, you must post your adjusted scores in a timely basis, either on the computer in the Eaglesnest or using the RCGA website from home unless unfavorable course conditions dictate a delay for posting as advised by the Captain. All scores from other Courses must also be posted.
2. Nine-hole scores may be entered individually. The computer will combine them even if an 18-hole game is played in between elsewhere. All play is from the back or Black tees shown as Black in the computer, whether playing 9 or 18 holes.
3. Winter Rules allow the player to lift, clean and replace the ball within 6 inches through the green no closer to the hole, without penalty. This will be in effect until the Captain or Handicap Chair dictate that Summer Rules, i.e. playing the ball down as it lies, are in effect.
4. Bunkers may be raked and the ball replaced without penalty when animal or foot prints, or other conditions not created by the ball, are deemed to create an unfair lie.
5. Year round, a ball embedded in its own pitch-mark may be lifted and replaced as near as possible to its original spot, no nearer the hole, without penalty. If an embedded ball is lost, another ball may be dropped at the estimated point of loss without penalty provided there is agreement that the ball was lost in this manner.
6. Relief without penalty is allowed from all protective screens, support poles and cables and other man-made structures, such as the wall of cement bags on the right side of the green on #2 and the bridge on #5, when stance, swing or line of flight is affected. This also applies to the rock in the fairway on #3 and #6. Take nearest relief not nearer the hole. This does not apply to perimeter fences.
7. Stroke and distance alternative: If a ball is hit out of bounds or could be lost, a provisional ball should be played. However, to avoid undue delay, if a provisional ball has not been played and the original ball is not found, the player may take a penalty of 2 strokes and drop a ball within 2 club lengths from the edge of the fairway at the nearest point where the ball is believed to have been lost.
8. Red staked environmental areas on hole #1 and #2 are played as a lateral hazard, i.e. one stroke penalty from point of entry. Also any ground under repair areas allow a free drop, no closer to the hole.
9. On #5, if a ball is hit into the creek area left of the wooden bridge, a player may re tee or utilize the drop zone on the fairway incurring a one stroke penalty, i.e. hitting 3.
10. The trees/shrubs behind the 4th green are part of the course and no longer qualify for a free drop. The ball should be played as it lies or proceed under the unplayable ball rule, one option being drop the ball within 2 club lengths not nearer the hole, invoking a one stroke penalty.

Honeypot Procedures
The Honeypot is in effect for the 2023 Season during regular golf play days. The Honeypot is a day-by-day event with prizes for various golf skills such as Low Net score for that day’s round, Closest to the Pin on Holes #5 & #8 and Longest 1st Putt on Hole #9. Please bring a Toonie and give to your Foursome Captain as your participation fee. Participants are in two specific groups designated Lo (<= 19 CH) /Hi (>=20 CH) Handicap. 1. There will be a Starter named for each week throughout the season. In the event the Starter can`t make it, he will be responsible for finding a replacement, usually switching with someone else on the Starters List. 2. The Starter will be in the 1st group so before going out he will get the Eaglesnest key from the Pro Shop to get the Closie and Longest Putt markers and others, if required, for the day’s play before returning the key to the Pro Shop. 3. After the round, the Starter will again open the Eaglesnest and start to fill out the daily sheets with the players’ names in the Hi or Lo Handicap groups along with their gross and net scores. The Foursome Captains will bring in the pot money and scorecards for their group as they finish. After the last group is in, the Starter will calculate the Low Net, Closie and Longest Putt winners and prize amounts using the defined Honeypot Pay Out sheet. 4. The winners will be paid directly, if in attendance, or winnings will be placed in the small envelopes for pickup at a future date. Score sheets are to be returned to the filing cabinet for our records. 5. Use your phone to take a picture of the HoneyPot results and email a copy to Bill Kitch (billakitch@gmail.com) as he is keeping the Sandbagger records for 2023. 6. At day`s end, the Starter will ensure the Eaglesnest is left in good condition, i.e., the coffee cups put in the dishwasher and started, if necessary, the floor vacuumed, coffee pots cleaned, and any garbage taken out. Put the coffee money in the coffee bag. If there are any shortages developing like envelopes, coffee and coffee filters, daily sheets etc., advise Errol Hartley so stocks can get replenished. 7. Also, before leaving, make sure the blinds are pulled down, the door locked, and the key returned to the Pro Shop. 8. Note, while the above is the Starter’s responsibility he should “solicit and expect help” from others in attendance.
Foursome Captains Responsibilities
- The Captain will be proactive in maintaining the foursomes “pace of play’ to keep up with the foursome ahead. Initiatives should include playing when ready, putting out and encouraging players to be aware of their position on the course, and for all to take individual actions needed to speed up until caught up.
- The Captain should be familiar with basic Golf Rules and our Local Rules and help others understand issues as they arise.
- The Captain will be responsible for makings rules decisions on daily play as they arise. Contentious issues should be referred to the GE exec/Rules committee for a ruling.
- The Captain will collect the $2 daily post ante from all players in the group (with an Official Golf Canada Handicap) and submit the $ to the closer in the Nest after the round.
- The Captain will keep scores for regular play and tournaments and submit to the Nest closer.
- The Captain will make sure all players understand the requirement of entering all scores in the Golf Canada website, whether played at Gleneagles and other courses in Canada or the U.S.
- Finally, the Captain should promote the Club’s philosophy of comradery and fun, and encourage others to participate in the Clubs activities.
#3 By-Pass Local Procedure
Without going into all the details of the hole rating and the players handicap I hope the following simplifies how we handle the scoring for those, who, for physical reasons, are not able to complete playing the 3rd hole.
There are 2 components.
1.First is a regular golf rule that states to record a score on a `hole not played the player would record ‘ par plus any strokes he is entitled to based on his handicap and the holes rating.
For simplicity a player who has a handicap of 18 or less ( 9 for 9 holes ) is entitled to one handicap stroke plus par when entering his score or a par 4 plus 1 for a total of 5.
Those with a handicap of 19 to 36 would record a par plus 2 for a total of 6.
Those with a handicap of 37 or higher would record par plus 3 for a total of 7
2.The second part of this situation is a Men`s local rule which allows a player who doesn`t play hole #3 to proceed to the temporary tee area at the bottom of the hole on #4 and is deemed to be laying one.
The players 2nd shot on hole #4 is from a drop ( not teed up) in the general area of the temporary tee and proceeds from there recording whatever his total score for the hole ends up being. The temporary green on the left side of the #3 fairway can be ignored as it is currently, not officially, part of the course.
Note. Not playing #3 is not an option and is only available to those who are physically unable to climb the hill.
It must be approved by the captain before playing
