Welcome back to a new season, everyone. As a fresh Captain, I have had the honour of following in Phil’s footsteps for two years, who followed John’s, who followed Terry’s, who followed Geoff’s, Ross' – and many, many others.
To me, that’s an acknowledgment that we build upon the achievements of others. We make slight progress each year, and the beauty of it is that this isn’t like running a company where the objective is to maximize profits.
In my mind, our mission is to, instead, maximize the joy of playing golf together, meet new friends and give back to the community.
We are the executives of the men’s division, and we are honoured by the trust our members have placed in us to run the club in the best way to maximize that joy. This doesn’t mean there won’t be friction or disagreements; all progress comes from moving forward, which sometimes involves differing opinions. As a board, it is our duty to navigate ahead. Together, we are set to steer this ship, and from what I’ve learned over the past few years, each of you plays a significant role in this process.
The theme of last season was Golf Etiquette, which we communicated through our weekly emails, the rules seminar, and other activities. This year, we are building on that.
Theme of the year: Faster Play
This year, we will focus on a part of the etiquette that is Faster Play. We have compiled a pdf-folder containing tips on how to enhance the pace, which we will distribute to the members.
