In November 2024 Glastonbury Pride reached out to our community to find out how Pride could best serve them. The following Mission Statement and Community Agreement was created through collaboration and sets out our expectations and intentions as a community.
Glastonbury Pride is an event and community where LGBTQIA+ individuals can gather and take up space through the vehicle of the experimental, alternative and open nature of our town.
To feel safe to explore and express their identities and values
To raise awareness of the issues that affect them and other LGBTQIA+ people.
To access services that provide support to the LGBTQIA+ community.
To experience radical queer joy.
Glastonbury Pride includes all those who support the above values, and aims to promote engagement and growth in the understanding of intersectional LGBTQIA issues.
Community agreement
Glastonbury Pride is a collective with agreed objectives and voice. Communications on behalf of Pride will reflect this.
We respect the diversity of our community and value those who embrace and uplift the Glastonbury Pride Mission Statement.
When representing or participating in Glastonbury Pride, we pledge to:
Be curious
Listen to each other and our community
To their needs
To their stories
To their worries
To their feedback
With an open mind and unconditional positive regard.
Speak with respect and willingness to yield space for others.
Be safe
Prioritise physical and psychological safety in our spaces and messaging. Take audience, venue and timings into account in our communications, representation and performances. Have zero tolerance for harassment and abuse
Be inclusive
Create an inclusive and accessible space by default.
Create space for visibility and representation of the rich diversity of LGBTQIA+ experiences.
Be active bystanders wherever we are able.
Recognise the skills and experience within our community.
Be proud
Acknowledge and respect the history and mission of the global Pride movement
Showcase LGBTQIA+ talent and enterprise.
Never censor on account of queerness alone.
Support progress
Recognise that we all have the capacity for growth; and embrace accountability for the impact of our words and actions as part of that process.
Support the growth of others without judgement.
Nurture and support effective allyship and curiosity.
