Before you begin piloting your spacecraft and enforcing Imperial control in the void of space. There are a few things you need to know to fly efficiently. This guide will outline basic operating procedures and controls. Results may vary for non-standard ships under your piloting.
Galactic ships contain information clusters via Heads-Up-Display, visible in the top-left corner of your screen. The general information you may see will be the following:
THR: Throttle Percentage
IAS: Indicated Airspeed (measured in km/h)
ALT: Altitude, measured in meters (m)
PRI: Primary Ammo
SEC: Secondary Ammo
Make sure you are in first-person and have disabled "weapon seats" before entering the spacecraft, then press E to enter.
Next, line up the cursor (big circle) with the crosshair (smaller circle with a cross), then press R to start the engine.
Sometimes, controls vary from ship to ship, and certain speeds can change how your ship operates.
Press SHIFT to ascend and S to descend when the throttle is at 0%.
Press A to sway left and D to sway right.
Press W to accelerate and S to slow down until you reach 0% throttle.
Press SHIFT to initiate an upward barrel roll. Press ALT to do a downward barrel roll.
Press A to spin to the left and D to spin to the right.
Press and Hold W to accelerate above 100% throttle. Let go, and the throttle will return to 100%.
Going above 100% throttle is called max throttle.
Going at exactly 100% throttle is called full throttle.
Moving your mouse will change the direction your TIE faces.
If operating a VTOL, press SPACE to open the back door of the VTOL.
Moving your mouse will change the direction your transport vehicle faces.
When exiting the Secondary Hangar Bay (SHB), your ship will be facing the opposite way upon spawning in your ship. When you turn around, be gentle while compensating for lateral/side-to-side movement with A and D. Do not rush to accelerate out of the hangar.Â
When flying in or near hangar bays, never exceed 30% throttle and only land at designated hangar bays. Flying below 30% is known as Taxiing.
Taxi speed does not apply when entering or exiting a map boundary/barrier. When approaching a planet boundary, it is recommended that you go max throttle and turn off the ship engine before hitting the barrier. When you see someone in combat, unless you have a clear line of sight on the enemy or are evading an enemy on someone's tail, do not engage the target ship.
All members of the Star Fighter Corps are to keep themselves moving in a Counter Clockwise manner while not in combat, This means you are to be flying on the Right Side (Right Turns) of the Imperial Star Destroyer at all times while Patrolling or flying during Defcon 4/5. Pilots are permitted to break off from the Standard Flight Path for Training Exercises, Simulated Combat, Pursuing a hostile, Entering or Exiting a planet or Hangar, or in case of Any Emergency Maneuvers they must take to safely pilot their vessel. The Standard Flight Path is simply a safety precaution expected of pilots and can be ignored if it is required to maintain safe control of your vessel, It is ultimately up the pilot to determine if they must break off from the Standard Flight Path for any of the reasons above.
