GIYC offers an adult & family learn to sail for members and non-members, taught by experienced  sailors on Harbor 20 sailboats. 

We offer  inroductory sessions during the summer months evenings or on weekends. Classes are two to three hours  and focus on basic sailing techniques and on water safety, using the curriculum followed by US Sailing in their learn to sail classes. Students get the opportunity to steer, trim sails, and learn to safely take their boat away from the dock and return. Multiple sessions may be offered dependent on interest and class size. 

Our learn to sail boat, the Harbor 20 (pictured above), is a stable 20 foot keel boat, that can comfortably accommodate four students in addition to the instructors.

• Learn to rig small boats on shore

Are you interested to try sailing for the first time or reacquaint yourself with the sport? Grosse Ile Yacht Club offers a two hour introduction to sailing using our Harbor 20 keel boats. 

Harbor 20s are designed for ease of use and comfort. A large open cockpit allows for a group of four passengers to sail safely in a stable keel boat which is perfect for novice sailors to try their own hand at sailing. Bring the family, bring another couple or bring friends for an evening or daytime pleasure sail to see local island views.  Bring a cooler and snacks to enjoy.  Call or email to schedule a time and date.
