8:30 pm - Race Committee meets at GIYC to review equipment.

Friday Morning

• 8:30 am - Meet Ted Wagner at GIYC to review equipment and test Ollie system

• 9:00 am - All necessary equipment (Sailing Instructions, Scratch Sheets, Flags, Ollie, RC Box, Starting Buoy and ground tackle, bungees) will be placed on Lady-D

Saturday Morning

• 8:30 am - Everyone Arrives at GIYC to board Lady-D in dock #83

• 10:00 am - Arrive at Starting Line

• 10:30 am - Starting Line is Setup

• 11:00 am - 1st Class Starts Racing

• 11:25 am - Last Class Starts Race

• ~12:30 pm - Lady-D arrives back at GIYC

• 1:00 pm - Ted bungees the RC Flag pole to one of the outer dock posts, and the finish line is established with the southern end of Sugar Island.

• Matt gave an update on the DRYA BOTY.  There our 7 counter races, you pick your best 4.  The DRYC sheet on our website is not up to date.  Brian R will correct it.

• Roger requested we confirm our sailing instructions clarify that our races will be under PHRF-LE rules.

• FCG: We will continue the program this year. GIYC needs 09 FCG Sailors

  • Added Nite Race.  Removed a 3rd counter option. Clarified that Jack & Jill is not a counter.

• Downriver Race: 

  • Reviewed Anita's notes from discussion with Larry B.  Agreed to plan something for them Sunday morning.  Breakfast of some kind.  Alec suggested Pancakes and coffee.  Brian does not want to organize a race on Sunday for them.  Historically, they always wanted to get back up river, early with good weather.

  • We need to be careful with the skipper's gathering on Friday night.  The Flying Scotts will not be able to attend, so don't call it a skipper's meeting.

  • RC Committee will try to get Power Boats to be a spotter for the Flying Scotts.

  • Request the Flying Scotts have a hand held radio on board so they can request assistance if needed.

  • VC Gary has booked a band for us.

Day Race 

• • Courses:

    • 1: (~21.4 Nm) N, Grecian Shoal, Tower 10, N  (Marks to Port or Starboard) (Spinnaker ONLY)

    • 2: (~15.7 Nm) N, East Outer, West Outer, N  (Marks to Port or Starboard) (Spinnaker, or JAM)

    • 3: (~11.7 Nm) N, T10, West Outer, N (Marks to Port or Starboard) (JAM Only)

    • Ron K. and Brian will both calculate race distances using different methods to confirm accuracy.

  • Afterglow: 

    • Flags: Brian will order the flags

    • Grill: Ron K. will coordinate with Sandy to plan the grill details.

    • Keg: Brian will email Sandy to confirm Keg cost and order

Independence Race

• • Courses:

    • Only Course (~9.9 Nm) RN2, DL, RN4, GIYC

  • After Glow: 

    • Flags: American Flags will be awarded on the lawn after the race.(3 Spin and 3 JAM) Alec & Anita will handle getting the flags

    • Keg: Brian will work with Todd D. to get details for the July 4th committee’s plans for food, drinks and entertainment to see how we can support to make it a great afterglow.

    • Grill: See above

    • Entertainment: See above

Downriver Regatta

• • We know last year’s race was challenging for their class, we should reach out to the Flying Scotts to discuss how we can improve the event for them.  

    • Brian to send Anita Larry Breskin’s contact info.

    • Anita to contact Larry to discuss possible improvements.

  • We should work with the Bridge to improve the regatta.  (safety boats, afterglow, general club participation, etc) 

Bluenose Format

• • Committee discuss whether to make the event a 2 day or 1 day regatta.

  • After discussing pros and cons of each format. Committee wants to stay with a 1 day format for 2018 and see if we can make it an outstanding event that draws in racers from other clubs.  It the event grows this year we recommend revisiting the idea of a 2 day event next year.

DRYA Lake Erie BOTY Trophy

• • Ron K. will discuss with Matt D. to see how we can support the new award.

• • Brian to work with Cary to pick dates for March and April events

  • We propose 2nd Wednesday of each month

Future RC Meetings

• We will schedule the future meetings on Wednesday nights if possible.   Next meeting date and time is TBD.

Todd, Ron and Brian traveled down to Detroit Beach Boat Club for the meeting.  We shared our club's race schedule with the other chairmen and collected a complete list of all Western Lake Erie Races, including the AYC and DRYA Counter races.

Meeting Minutes

Committee agreed upon the following:

Races:

• • Races, dates & fees for the GIYC season are confirmed and on the "2018 Race Entry Form" which is on the website home page.

  • Labor Day Race is removed from the schedule for this year

  • Independence Race will be a free race.

  • Bluenose series should only be "3" races.  Feedback from racers was "4" was too much.

  • The One Design race will be a GIYC event but all expenses will be covered by participating skippers.

  • Notice of Race Posters will be created for each race and posted at FYC, LMYC, & NCYC.  Brian will print them and deliver them to Cary D, John A, and Jeff M.

  • Boat of the year requirements should be improved to allow for at lease half the GIYC racers to qualify.

After Glow / Parties:

• • All races will be followed by a party with a free Keg, band and outdoor grill (affordable burgers and hot dogs).

  • Flags will be ordered in advance of the season and Flags will be awarded after each race.

    • We will need to order 3 flags for each class.  

    • No "last place flags will be awarded", so if only 3 boats in a class, one flag will be recycled for next year.

• Brian to ask the BoD for a budget of at least $1,500 to help cover the Beer and Entertainment.

• Ron will be the liaison to the club management to organize the kegs and outdoor grill for the parties.

Meetings:

• Spring Skipper's meeting should be in March, not April, so as not to interfere with time for races to work on their boats.

• Skipper's Meetings should be Saturday's at noon, not dinner time,  to reduce interference to peoples weekend schedules.

• The next RC meeting should be in February, with the goal of confirming the Day Race & Independence Race formats.
