"Hi, I'm Tammy and I'm currently in 6th grade. I like to draw and watch anime. I live with my two older sisters and two parents.
Being in GIVE 2 SAVE made me think more about those in need. I realized how lucky I am to be in a great family with a great home. We can't forget those who are suffering everyday. When someone's in need, I want to help in any way I can."
"Hi, my name is Tina Ly and I'm currently a 8th grader at Anahuac Middle School. I enjoy playing volleyball and dancing. I am the middle child of 3 sisters and currently live with my two parents.
I didn't know that Vietnam was in such a poor state before I was first introduced to GIVE 2 SAVE. Seeing the people in poverty made me really sad because they don't deserve that. Traveling to Vietnam for the first time made me realize that I'm very blessed to live in a country full of opportunity."
"Hi, I'm Tammy and I just started my sophmore year of high school. In my free time, I like to compete in multiple academic competitions such as debate, Future Business Leaders of America, UIL, Quiz Bowl, and Technology Students Association.
Being in GIVE 2 SAVE completely changed my outlook on the world. Living in Vietnam for so long, I've become desensitized to poverty; it was everywhere I looked. During the trip, I saw people who became disabled trying to work their way out of poverty so their children could have a better future. It was devastating to see how working the only job they could based off the economic and geographic position they were born into disabled them. For me, this was a wake up call. It showed me that just because I'm not personally affected by something doesn't mean that other people aren't. It may sound like such a simple thing, but when adversity doesn't personally affect you, you just don't see how bad it gets."
Hello, my name is Richard Lam and I am a freshman at the University of Houston. I was a percussionist in my varsity school band and Editor of Key Club. I was also an avid member of HOSA - Future Health Professionals.
I am glad I was able to volunteer my time towards an exceptional cause. Being able to visit my parents' homeland and helping the people who still struggle from the same issue my parents faced back then was very eye-opening.
"Hi, my name is Andrew and I am a freshman in college. I spend most of my time playing the flute in my school band and a local Chinese orchestra, compete in robotics, and drawing cars.
Even though I did not help directly on the trip, helping translate for GIVE 2 SAVE has opened my eyes to the plight many people in Vietnam are trapped in due to nothing other than where they were born. I have tremendous respect for Tracy and the other volunteers for standing up and really making a difference."
Hi, my name is Jose Cabrera and I am currently a sophmore at the University of Houston majoring in Computer Science. I enjoy playing sports like basketball and soccer. I also have a passion to work with technology and coding.
Looking at the way people struggle everyday in Vietnam is heartbreaking to me. I would’ve never known about the current situation if it wasn’t for Tracy Ly introducing me to GIVE 2 SAVE. There are many parts in our world where no action is taken to fight against poverty. I am proud of Tracy because this program has the ability to make a difference. Nothing is better than helping to make a great impact towards other people’s lives.
Hi, my name is Evan Luo, I am currently a freshman at Texas A&M University. I was captain of my high school's varsity tennis team and a former member of Health Occupations Students of America.
Growing up, my dad would relay stories about his impoverished upbringings. He was jailed trying to provide for his family through underage working and pushed through other obstacles to pursue opportunities for his future family. Through those inspiring stories, I learned about the satisfaction and reward of hard work and perseverance. Only by acting up can you make an impact in the world, no matter how little the contribution. In my joining of Give 2 Save I have obtained a real opportunity to, eventually, venture into the world and explore poverty to create solutions that last a lifetime.
