The university portal was difficult to navigate, with poor information hierarchy, accessibility issues, and an unintuitive user flow. Students struggled to quickly access critical resources such as course materials, schedules, and administrative services. Additionally, the portal did not adhere to accessibility best practices, making it challenging for users with disabilities to interact effectively with the system. Through user testing and research, I identified key usability pain points and redesigned the interface to improve clarity, efficiency, and inclusivity.
User Research & Findings
To identify key usability issues within the university portal, I conducted user testing with students who frequently used the platform. My research methods included:
User Surveys & Interviews: Collected feedback from students about their pain points, focusing on navigation difficulties, accessibility concerns, and inefficiencies in finding important resources.
Accessibility Audit: Evaluated the portal for WCAG compliance, revealing issues such as low contrast text, lack of keyboard navigability, and missing alt text for images.
Usability Testing: Observed students completing common tasks (e.g., checking course schedules, submitting assignments) to measure efficiency and pain points.
