GIMUN
What is a MUN?
A Model United Nations, or MUN, is an inter-diplomatic conference designed to allow students to experience and participate in UN debates. The conference is divided into different committees, each of which having one pressing issue referred to as the “agenda”. Every committee is usually focused on one "genre" of issues, for instance, the United Nations Environmental Programme handles issues to do with the climate and environment. Likewise, the united nations security council handles international peace between nations.
Every participant will be a delegate representing a certain nation in the committee. The committee sessions involve each delegate presenting their country's perspective on the agenda. The discussion ends with all countries coming to a unanimous agreement in the form of a formal resolution. This resolution consists of solutions proposed by delegates during the committee discussions.
Every delegate is expected to research the foreign policies of the country they will be representing, and it is also recommended that delegates also research the agenda at hand since it will allow committees to have more fruitful discussions.
