29 July 2023 Zig Zag Railway

Leura and The Zig Zag Railway Once again, the weather was extremely kind to us on this outing. We were all rugged up for a winter day in the mountains but locals (and some of us) were walking around in T-shirts, even at 4pm!

Leura was, as always, a lovely village to stroll around and enjoy, though not so enjoyable when the price tags were checked. The lolly shop proved a winner, and the coffees were well received. Lunch at Katoomba RSL was a pleasant time of chatting and eating.

Then we boarded our coach again for the Zig-Zag Railway. This was a very interesting and nostalgic excursion – checking out the big old-time engines, getting our little cardboard tickets clipped by the conductor, and generally just soaking up the atmosphere of the steam and the signal boxes and the old stations. Lots of photo opportunities, and stories about our childhood holiday trips on the steam trains, which were an adventure even then.

A very relaxing and fun day for all.
