WESTERN SYDNEY AIRPORT EXPERIENCE This was a very interesting and informative presentation on the new Western Sydney International Nancy Bird-Walton Airport. We discovered facts about the construction of the airport (Did you know that the sandstone waste from the Metro tunnelling was reused as the runway base?), the proposed first stage opening in late 2016 (And it’s on schedule!) and the future expansion which will make it larger than Heathrow Airport (but don’t get too excited for that as the final stage is planned for 2063 and I suspect we won’t get to see it – maybe our children won’t either). The presentation was very well done by the staff. We didn’t think we would be excited about an airport, but it certainly is something to look forward to. After the airport experience a lovely lunch was enjoyed at Lunden House in Luddenham, which is a very nice café/restaurant recommended by those who attended.
