This subject is about translation with the asistance of computers, in more specific words with CAT tools. Cat tools are software applications that help human translators translate texts between languages more rapidly and effectively.
The difference between a Computer-assisted translation (CAT) tool and a Machine translation (MT) is that the first one allows humans to lead the translation, while MT will just translate automatically.
In the following projects I was assigned the task of translating different articles and documents using the assistance of Cat and MT tools.
Project 01 - Article
In this project the main task was to translate a Tech article or a science article from spanish to english, so I chose a science article about breast milk from National Geographic.
Project 01 B - Article
In this project the main task was to translate a Tech article or a science article from english to spanish, so I chose a science article light pollution from the Sciencenews.
Project 02 - Med Article
In this project the main task was to translate a medical article from english to spanish, so I chose an article about Zika from the Sciencenews.
Project - Legal Article
In this project the main task was to translate alegal article. I chose an edito from Gaceta Oficial. The editos are articles that anounce important information and must be publicly accesible.
Project - Video Transcription
In this project the main task was to transcribe first the speach from a video an then make the translation. In my case I chose a video from Tedtalk, from youtube web page about how to control emotions.
Project - Literary
In this project the main task was to translate some paragraphs of a novel originally in spanish or english. I chose the novel The señora Dalloway and compare the tools to the oficial translation.
Project - Optional Project
In this project the main task was to translate an article from a language we were not familiar with to spanish and english. I chose an article in dutch language about a project of pipes that heat the streets.
In conclusion, all the projects that were carried out were very significant, because they allowed us to learn the use of indispensable tools for translation. On the other hand, it was possible to learn techniques and understand the correct ways of translation. I must emphasize that the variety of the types of documents to be translated allowed a great enrichment and improvement in the quality of the subject.
