Our September 2025 Announcement
Some of our guests will become ineligible to continue to receive food in Gibraltar.
What is forcing us to make a change?
Current economic realities in our country are having a significant impact of food banks and food pantries across the country. While the need for food assistance has been and is rapidly increasing, resources (such as federal grant programs and the availability of USDA food items) have decreased dramatically.
This combination of events is forcing food providers across the country to reassess their current policies and make difficult decisions regarding their program operations.
We, at the Gibraltar Food Pantry, also find ourselves in this situation. While the number of households seeking food assistance has nearly doubled, our budget has remained constant and the availability of resources has greatly decreased. We find ourselves in the position of making some difficult decisions, do we…
A: continue to attempt to provide food assistance to all who come to us which would mean reducing by half or more the amount and types of food we provide to households each month?
or
B: revise our service area and maintain the amount and types of food we provide to households each month?
This is not a situation we wanted to face and has not been an easy decision.
Beginning October 1, 2025, we are changing our service area.
We will be providing food assistance only to residents of the following communities.
Gibraltar
Rockwood
Brownstown
Woodhaven
Flat Rock
Trenton
Finding another food pantry
If you do not reside in one of those communities, there are good resources to help you find a food pantry in your community.
We regret having to make these changes and appreciate your understanding.
