Everyone that is selected to go to the GSU Conference will ride on a bus for about 3 hours. The bus rides are super fun and we get to read the docket and make fun of bad resolutions ride! When we get to the hotel, everyone unpacks their stuff and we go out to eat. Everyone usually spends the first night sleeping, because there is certainly a lack of that the next few days. In the morning, we will grab breakfast at the hotel and head over to GSU for the start of the day. The first hour is used to introduce yourself and mingle. You should use this time to try and make friends with local or powerful countries so that you can trade favors later on. When the dais comes up to the podium everyone finds their seat next to their partner and we begin the organized chaos. There will be lunch breaks where we go to the GSU food courts and eat (really good food) and a dinner break where we argue over where to go and eat fast food. (Zaxby's and Kebab's for the win!) The other two nights some unlucky forced to stay up late to work on responses to the crises (cough cough Russia). After the large-scale awards ceremony where around 10 honorable mentions, 5 distinguished delegations, and 1 outstanding delegation for General Assembly. Each council is also awarded 1 outstanding delegate and a handful of distinguished and honorable delegates. Also the top few schools are given trophies to bring home. After awards, we take pictures and head back on the bus. This trip is really great and It certainly is a highlight of the year! With its mix of stress, competition, craziness, controversy, silliness, solemness, and fun the GSU trip is one to remember!
