Established in the year 1999, Governor Ferrer Memorial Integrated National High School (formerly known as Governor Ferrer Memorial National High School- Main Campus) responded to the call of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (now Department of Education) with DO 054 s. 1996 or the Guidelines for the Implementing of Special Science Classes under the Engineering and Science Education Project.
The school adapts the guidelines set by the Central Office in developing students’ scientific inquiry skills, values, and attitudes, including critical thinking in preparing them for their future careers. With its rigid curriculum in the science and technology disciplines, the school also boasts of its products who are now practicing in the fields of medicine, as well as, becoming a training ground for students practicing in research, journalism, and mass communication.
In the implementation of the Basic Education system, GFMINHS continues to improve and bridge the learning gap from the elementary level to the secondary. Based on the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the school comes with the General Secondary Curriculum, which caters to free education for the youths of General Trias, even from nearby municipalities.
GFMINHS also uses the salient features of RA 10533, also known as "An Act Enhancing the Philippine Basic Education System by Strengthening Its Curriculum and Increasing the Number of Years for Basic Education, Appropriating Funds Therefor and for Other Purposes,” otherwise known as the “Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013", as it supports the spiral curriculum from strengthening the Universal Kindergarten, making the curriculum relevant to learners, ensuring integrated and seamless learning, building proficiency through language motor, gearing up to higher education, and nurturing the holistically developed Filipino towards their future career, by letting them undergo a four-year junior high school general secondary program with its core disciplines with its minor subjects.
In compliance with DO. 46, s. 2006, also known as Guidelines on the Pilot Implementation of the Open High School Program, GFMINHS opened its gates to encourage out-of-school youths (from ages 12 to 16) in General Trias City and nearby towns to return to study in 2012. It is an alternative curriculum in giving secondary education to students who struggle with time, financial difficulties, physical impairment, distance, and social or family problems.
At present, the school continues to cater to learners who want to complete their secondary level at their convenience and pace by attending classes every Saturday with competitively appointed teachers, wherein they can also enjoy the same learnings from the regular general secondary curriculum, but with a special means of delivery.
During the hype of the pandemic, Governor Ferrer Memorial Integrated National High School made way to the integration of the Senior High School curriculum, offering HUMMS, STEM, ABM, and Arts and Design strands in 2021. Starting with less than 500 students in its first implementing year, the school is now growing with a great number of enrollees and teachers. As it follows the rigid curriculum set by the department, GFMINHS remains to set high standards of learning that will lead the students to their respective fields in higher education.
In recognition and promotion of quality basic education in all forms and modes of delivery for Filipinos, GFMINHS launched the Alternative Learning System for Senior High School in 2022. During the school’s pilot implementation, it was able to cater to a total of 199 ALS- Senior High School students across all offered tracks, including students from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the Bureau of Corrections. Its main objective is to bridge the learning gaps which serves as one of the areas of rehabilitation programs in letting them earn their elementary and high school diplomas. Professional teachers are posted to give them the quality learning curriculum they deserve. Completers can also enroll in college, thus giving them an opportunity to land a better future.
