Gerrymandering is the dividing of a state, county, etc., into election districts so as to give one political party a majority in many districts while concentrating the voting strength of the other party into as few districts as possible.

The Two Tactics of Gerrymandering:
- Cracking is the process of spreading like-minded voters apart across multiple districts to dilute their voting power in each. In order to crack districts up, lines have to be drawn to establish that the opposing party's voters are separated into as many districts as possible. Cracking can be seen in the second example in the image above.
- Packing, on the other hand, is the process of concentrating like-minded voters together in one district to reduce their voting power in other districts. This gives the group representation in a single district while denying them representation across districts. This ensures of the overloading of voters from one party into as few districts as possible so votes are excessively concentrated. In the image above, the last example where red wins shows packing.
