Comparing Measurements of Gerrymandering

We have compiled two charts to show how the different measurements of gerrymandering interact with one another. The first chart shows fictional districts that we have made up ourselves and the second shows real districts from the United States that we found to be gerrymandered.

This chart that we created shows a comparison between measures of high and low gerrymandering. We attempted to create districts that would have one high measurement of gerrymandering and one low measurement of gerrymandering.

Real World Districts:

In this chart we have found political districts from the United States that have high results from one gerrymandering measurement equation and low results from another gerrymandering equation.

See if you can fill in this chart that we created with comparisons of high and low measures of gerrymandering. Try to use the definitions and Geogebra applications we provided on the How to Measure Gerrymandering page and think about what limitations these measurements might have.
