This course will explore all things aging through an interactive learning experience. Aging is something everyone experiences, yet misconceptions and stereotypes persist. This course will introduce first-year students to the biological, physiological, and social aspects of aging, and challenging and educating on the true nature of aging.
The world's population is aging at an unprecedented rate, underscoring the importance of understanding the experiences, challenges, and strengths of older adults. Aging impacts all aspects of society.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Define aging and understand key parts of the aging process
Identify instances of ageism in society and how to advocate against it
Learn new things about aging that everyone should know
Hear directly from older adults and learn from their experiences and perspectives
Apply what has been learned to real-life situations
Fact #1: Research shows that having a positive view towards aging can help improve one's health and longevity?(Levy, 2002)
Fact #2: Polls show that we are happier in later life than during midlife (Galambos, 2020)
