WWW: Wine With Wayne.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shpzA3KUHj0

I was in Stockholm at the Skeppshölmen Jazz Festival in 2001, working in logistics, and I had to be available if Wayne Shorter and his band needed anything.

I go up two more floors—it was an old Swedish school in Skeppsholmen—and while setting up Wayne Shorter's dressing room, he walks in with Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, and Brian Blade.

At one point Wayne asks my name, and he says: German, please, I need to be alone, watch the door and don't let anyone in. I felt he started praying on his knees (Soka Gakkai)—I say on his knees because his voice was heard at that height—and at one moment he started playing the saxophone. It must have been between 15 and 20 minutes of sax, and the only one listening to him on the planet was me.

What a gift from the cosmos!!

And then he asked me to help him carry his sax downstairs to the car taking him to the stage. And when he came back from the stage, he and Patitucci, Danilo Pérez, and Brian Blade asked for wine...

Wayne told me: hey man, sit down and have wine with us, stop working.

Danilo took the photo and Patitucci rushed to get in the picture. I was drinking French wine with Wayne, Miles Davis's saxophonist—crazy.

Beautiful places I've played gigs at:

New Orleans
France
Swiss
California
Sweden
