Target Tier 2 Words from George (Gino, 2015)

Vocabulary words featured from George are Tier 2 words that allow students to access and build richer lexicons. These words build language across content areas, support vocabulary development for reading and writing, and reflect more specific language to show emotions and actions.

The Google slides below are a practical tool teachers can use to introduce, teach, and assess vocabulary for Section 4 (Chapters 10 - 12) of George in meaningful and authentic ways. Each vocabulary word slide includes the part of speech, context from George, student friendly explanation, out-of-book contexts, synonyms, forms of the word, and multimodal representations. The presentation also includes instructional activities that invite children to interact with the vocabulary words in various authentic and contextualized ways and features a sample assessment to efficiently determine children’s understanding of the five targeted vocabulary words at the end of the week.
