COMPANIES AND EMPLOYERS LISTEN UP
"No country in the world can yet say they have achieved gender equality in pay, leadership, and opportunities. Women are still waiting." (UN Women, 2014). Women have continued to be underpaid and underrepresented in leadership roles and yet they are over represented in lower paying jobs that are severely undervalued by society. Gender based discrimination is the unfair treatment of people based solely on their gender, this is something that causes gaps in wages, disparities in career opportunities and can create unhealthy work environments. This discrimination disproportionately affects women and especially affects women who live at intersectionality, those of marginalized groups. This can limit many women's professional growth in their chosen career because of these prejudices against them. Additionally to this, legislators and citizens must play a role in advocating for policies that promote diversity, equity and inclusion to make long term changes to workplace environments, which have currently been banned in a few states in the USA, which has taken away support for many marginalized groups and refused many opportunities. Workplace discrimination against women is an issue that continuously affects their pay, career advancements and work environments, this inequality is further compounded for women of marginalized groups. To create a more equal work environment, reforms are needed, including closing the pay gap, consideration of culture shifts, and greater accountability by companies.
