ORGANIZATION BASED ON GENDER
In the workplace there is often an unconscious bias and gender stereotypes that can cause many barriers in organizational settings of power, this includes hiring, and promotions. These unconscious biases lead to the undervaluation of women's abilities, especially when it comes to leadership roles. There have very many times in which women have been overlooked for positions or promotions in a job, despite having the same or more qualifications as male counterparts, due to the gendered stereotype that men are better for leadership roles (Tremmel & Wahl, 2023). Women will oftentimes face microaggressions, such as having their ideas ignored or being interrupted more than male colleagues, this makes women experience the pressure of always having to prove themselves (Gartner, 2021). Along with this, women in environments such as this lack mentorship and support from other colleagues, which can isolate them and even further stop their career advancements (Tremmel & Wahl, 2023). Addressing this, organisations should have policies that promote gender equality, such as training, transparency when hiring and mentorship programs for women, this will help women feel more included and safe in the workplace. This creates an inclusive workplace that values all employees and is essential for empowering women.
What has allowed discriminatory practices to continue in the workplace have been a lack of accountability within many workplaces. This prevents women, especially those from marginalized groups, from thriving in professional workplaces. When so many companies fail to address bias or take meaningful actions against anyone who discriminates, it will be seen as something that is tolerated in the workplace environment. This is further compounded because of the fact that many leadership roles and decision making roles are held by men, which can lead to blindspots regarding gender and honestly a lack of care from them to want to make changes and policies and this creates resistance to structural change (UN Women, 2014). By taking accountability for any type of discrimination in the workplace it can work towards enforcing policies against gender based discrimination, and create a safe and inclusive work environment. Without diverse voices in positions of power to create this strong accountability these efforts to make inclusive work environments often falls short.
