GMail is an emailing service that allows you not only to send and receive emails, but also allows you to personalise your inbox, create priority mail, translate messages into other languages and organise your emails with filters, starred messages and so much more.
Google Tasks is a to do list function that sits inside your GMail page. Here you can create lists of things you need to achieve, add dates to them, add them to your calendar, include more detail and then cross them off when you're done.
