2020 GJCAC Grant Report

In 2020, Geek Parties of the Grand Valley received a grant from the Commission on Arts and Culture for a sound system. We initially applied for it for our Summer Shakespeare Series, but due to quarantine, we worked to have the grant reapplied to The Poe Project.

.

Mesa County Event Guidelines approved our Pandemic Protocol documents, but by October there were still strict guidelines. Since the GPGV board was already a single pod for the 20-21 school year, we put on a single event: Readings on the Corner for First Friday, October, outdoors, and showcased our new equipment, fulfilling our commitment to the City.

.

This equipment is available for organizations to borrow.

Aside from the Night at the Buffalo, The Poe Project lasooed several online events for 2020.

.

Three Zephyr Stage artists, Raquel Benham, Kim Nuzzo and Valerie Nuzzo, each created multiple entries in an original film called Poe-mythology: nothing stays buried.  ZephyrStage.com

.

Mesa Murder Mysteries writer and director Kathy Applebee fielded both an online Murder Mystery event and an escape room event.

.

GPGV hosted the annual online Cool Story Poe Facebook Event party.

2022 Costume & Cosplay Apparel Giveaway

In a one-off event, Geek Parties of the Grand Valley partnered with the Grand Junction Free Promwear to throw a gigantic tattered, dirty, outdated promdress & suiting giveaway. The feature in Out and About was excellent publicity for our first event back.

.

The event was so packed--with tables, dresses & with people--the library opened up the second community room. Theaters, artists, people looking to craft their own promwear, and other members of the community attended.

.

What remained was donated to the Homeward Bound Clothing Closet on North Avenue and BAM! Business Art Mentorship. Look for BAM!’s fashion show this summer to support their students. (BAM Biz Art Mentorship on Facebook)
