See The "Great" In You
June 30, 2021
So, this really cool guy I know asked me a question last week. He said, " What does it matter if the coach is putting you in the game if you won't get off the bench?" (Something like that). At any rate, I get it.
I have always had the innate ability to see the greatness in others and the ability to help them become their best self. I can see the good in anyone, but at times - sometimes more than others, I fail to see (or forget to see, to nurture) the greatness in me. I think this is an area we all fall short in at times and it is completely understandable. So here I am in all my greatness - no, but really. Let me just say, I have a new found respect for people who are willing to put themselves out there on any social media platform. Basically you are saying to the world, "Here I am, what do you think?"
Now that's not why I am here, but I am sure someone will tell me what they think regardless and that's okay. That's what you invite when you present yourself to the world. So, why am I here? I am here to:
1 - Remember the greatness that I am and share it with the world, and
2 - Evoke, Empower and reEducate .
Let's talk:
I am sure I am not the only person that forgets or needs to be reminded of the greatness that lies within. I am sure I am not the only person who has ever felt stuck. It is because I have been in all these places (the sunken place), and even revisit these places at times that I am able to help you to get out of these places. Trust me, I have taken that journey a time or two or three.
How do you become unstuck?
1 - Don't judge yourself.
We are our own worse critics, myself included. I am a perfectionist to a fault, and I have a touch of OCD. Yes, that's me. Do you know that I will wait to do things (write a book, go live, work my business) until I think everything is perfect? I do this until I stop and remember that what I have to say is more important then when and where I say it. What do you have to say to the world?
2 - Give yourself the same grace you give others.
The lens that you look at everyone else with; the lens that sees the good in them is the same lens that you need to look at yourself with (the same lens I have to look at myself with).
3 - Walk in acceptance.
This one is hard and can be a little tricky. I am not saying that you should let people walk all over you. I am saying that you should not let your situations and whatever state of mind you are in right now stop you from walking in your greatness.
Still need help getting unstuck? Hope on my calendar for a one-on one coaching session.
Why You Should Never Apologize For Who You Are
April 5, 2021
Hello, hello, hello. I am so excited to be writing about this topic. This blog was birthed from a question from a guest of one of my FaceBook Lives. This was an easy topic for me to discuss because I too, used to spend much of my life apologizing either directly or indirectly for who I was. I am happy to say that I no longer feel the need to apologize for being who I am. I hope that this blog will help you to see why you too should never apologize for who you are.
Completely Unfiltered,
Dr. Mee
As I stated earlier I too used to apologize for simply being me. I would apologize for my personality, my looks, hell - I even apologized for my feelings. I apologized for so much and I understand why this question was asked. I I only stopped apologizing for who I was when I found my self; my true self.
***Note: If you are having trouble finding your true self order the book - 10 Ways to Embrace Your True Self. ***
There are numerous reasons why you may feel the need to apologize for who you are (or who you believe you are). Some of these reasons include:
You in fact do not truly know who you are
You give too much value to others opinion of you
You allow others to define you
You Don't Know Who You Are
I am sure you saying, I know who I am; what do you mean I do not know who I am? This is not meant as a derogatory remark, merely a statement of truth. I am sure you have a sense of identity but how you identify is no a true representation of who you are. (Learn more - 10 Ways to Embrace Your True Self) If you only see yourself as how you identify then you will apologize for your label(s). Labels can be used as a tool of separation and enhance our differences we can easily find reasons to apologize for them. Only when you know your true self you will never feel the need to apologize for who you are again.
You Give Too Much Value to Others Opinion of You
Just so you know - I was also guilty of placing too much value in the opinions of others. We all do this at time. I found that I use to place the most value in the opinions of those closest to me because it was their opinions that mattered most, right? I have since learned that the reason I was placing so much value in what others thought of me was because I didn't know who I was or what to think of myself.
When you don't value yourself, you make it okay for others to not value you as well. Purchase my book How "No" and I Became Best Friends where I discuss the power of properly assigning value to the thoughts and opinions of others to learn more.
You Allow Others to Define You
When you allow others or society to define who you are and influence how you see yourself you will always feel the need to apologize for who you are. And yes, people define who you are all the time and we tend to allow it whether it is conscious on our part or not. People and society define us, place labels on us and it is those definitions and labels that cause us to believe that we can let them down. When you stop letting people define you - you will stop feeling the need to apologize for who you are.
So you ask why you should not apologize for who you are, I will tell you! You should not apologize for who you are because who you are is so much more than what others see and maybe more than what you see in yourself. In my book 10 Ways to Embrace Your True Self, two of the steps are to recognize who you are and to recognize who you are not. When you truly learn who you are you will know with out any doubt that there is no need to apologize for who you are.
It is my hope that this blog has given you some insight as to why you should never apologize for who you are. You are greatness personified and there are NO APOLOGIES NEEDED!
