Georgeanne Cook, GEAFCS President
For this year’s Presidential Philanthropy project, Georgeanne Cook, GEAFCS President, has selected Washington County Jail’s RSAT program.
The vision of the RSAT program is to rehabilitate, reeducate and prepare inmates recovering from addictions and re-entry into society and their communities. UGA Extension has been at the forefront with this new style of treatment program within the Washington county jail. Inmates work on smart personal goals, learn how to cope with traumas, support them with getting a GED, become workforce ready, and work on community projects to better their communities. Through collaborative efforts with Extension, these participants are learning to garden, sew, and get a ServSafe Food Handler certificate to help with job securement after being released. Gardening and coloring are the inmates’ best tools in dealing with trauma containment and soothing skills.
Our goal this year is to support and provide items that the RSAT program needs to help support their treatment program.
