Global Perspective

As an international student, seeing the world from different perspective was important to me. I want to understand differences in cultural practices from different parts of the world. So, to understand cultural differences I engaged in multiple events in Moscow, Idaho. I created following objectives to be understand global perspective:

  • Participate in at least 1 study abroad

  • Lead a trip to Nepal

  • Volunteer with International Programs office

During summer of 2018, I went on a 12 day long educational trip to the Czech Republic. This program was in conjugation with Kansas State University. There were altogether 16 students from both universities. The main purpose of the program were:

    • To understand Agricultural Practices in Czech Republic

    • To learn their rich history and culture

    • To participate in global experience

TEACH AG NEPAL

I have been invited as a cultural guide and participant to attend Teach Ag Nepal trip curated by Global Teach Ag of Pennsylvania State University. It is a 20 day long immersive learning experience. The learning objectives of the experience are:

    • Reflect on personal global competency

    • Explore Nepalese culture and agricultural systems in relationship to global agriculture

    • Integrate international study in agriculture into secondary based agricultural education

HINDRANCE for teach ag Nepal

I am very honored to be invited to be part of Teach Ag Nepal. But there are some challenges that have prevented me from accepting the invitation which are listed below:

    • Cost of program

    • summer research schedule

    • COVID -19

I am working on finding resources to support my travel to Nepal and I am optimistic that I will be able to support my travel. As far as my schedule goes I am planning schedule for my research so that I will be able to complete both experiences.

VOLUNTEER , INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS OFFICE

I have served as a volunteer for International Programs office. As a volunteer I have assisted IPO in organizing New Student Orientation and picking up new students from airport.

REFLECTION:

The global experience that I participated in fortified my determination for global engagement and forged a unique perspective on the world and global challenges. Travelling to USA was already an unique experience for me which was enriched by the time that I spent in Czech Republic. After the experience, I realized that no matter where we are from, our basic needs are the same and we are all affected by global issues like Climate Change.
