As a nursing student, I was intentional in choosing experiences and global events which focused on the experiences of individuals who experience barriers to health care based on an element of their identity.
Global Events Focused on the Perspectives of Patients Within…
•The Spanish-Speaking community (Speaking English as second language)
•The intersex community
•Indigenous communities.
•Maternal Health within the African American Community
Specific Targets within Sustainable Development Goal 3 that I focused on:
Target 3.3: By 2030, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases
Focused on education regarding the transmission of tropical diseases (Dengue virus) and communicable diseases through home inspections, promotion of clean water use, and education about hand washing
Target 3.4: Noncommunicable diseases and mental health: By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being.
My project group created education on topics such as stress reduction, stress management strategies, boundary setting, and compassion. Additionally, we provided a list of community mental health resources available.
Presentation activity encourages participants to reflect on their own support systems and stress management strategies.
Target 3.8: Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all
Focused on during comparison of healthcare systems in USA vs. Colombia vs. Germany
Target 3.d: Strengthen the capacity of all countries, in particular developing countries, for early warning, risk reduction and management of national and global health risks
Focused on in Homeland Security in A Clinical Setting Thesis
