Hello my name is Rachel and I am currently a senior and a second-year student at the University of South Florida College of Nursing graduating in May 2024. During my time as a student at the University of South Florida, I have dedicated myself to academic excellence and have set my sights on completing the Global Citizens Project.
My motivation for participating in the Global Citizens Project stems from the rich variety of individuals I have encountered growing u, each representing diverse backgrounds. My curiosity about the variety of unique perspectives and cultural experiences has fueled my aspiration to delve deeper into understanding the world around me.
Moreover, my interest in global affairs was sparked during high school when I undertook Mandarin Chinese classes and participated in a two-week exchange program in Beijing, China during my sophomore year. This transformative experience ignited my passion for international travel, motivating me to explore and comprehend the intricacies of cultures, languages, and the daily lives of people worldwide. Entering college, I had three overarching goals: to enhance my understanding of global cultures, to cultivate a heightened global awareness, and to integrate cultural insights and alternative health practices into my journey towards becoming a culturally astute nurse.
Following graduation, I want to work as a registered nurse in the ICU. Following my time in the ICU, I envision exploring educational opportunities to advance my career, ultimately considering a transition to a provider role. Through this trajectory, I aim to contribute meaningfully to the healthcare landscape and further hone my skills as a culturally aware healthcare professional.
Celebrating receiving my nursing white coat and the publication of my thesis titled "Homeland Security in a Clinical Setting" (October 2022)
The Global Citizens Project, an initiative by the University of South Florida, is designed to equip students with the necessary tools for success in today's globally interconnected world. The cultivation of a global citizen beckons individuals to actively engage with and develop insights from the multifaceted facets of our global community, particularly from those whose backgrounds differ from their own.
A global citizen is characterized by their ability to adapt and flourish in diverse scenarios, encompassing encounters with varied people, locations, events, challenges, and opportunities. The essence of global citizenship lies in one's capacity to embody traits of flexibility, a profound understanding of the world, collaborative prowess, and formidable leadership skills.
An individual who completes the Global Citizens Project is awarded with the Global Citizens Award upon graduation. Aspiring recipients must fulfill strict requirements outlined within the Global Citizens Program. These requirements include the successful completion of Global Citizens Program approved coursework, active participation in events underscored by a global focus, sustained engagement with the global community, a comprehensive written reflection, and the creation of an electronic portfolio which details the participants journey through the Global Citizens Program.
My reflection presentation contains two components, my PowerPoint presentation and the video recording of myself reading over this presentation.
