Welcome to the Module
This module provides support for the facilitators delivering the African Development Bank (AfDB) training course on GCF project development, which trains participants in the preparation of proposals to access GCF climate finance.
This module introduces the principles of adult learning, to provide an approach for suitable training methods and facilitation for this course. These principles will also inform your teaching strategies, as you design your learning programme, whether the course is online or in-person, or a combination of the two. The module familiarises you with what to expect in an online training session and a live breakaway group, and the various techniques you will use in the online training, including setting up platforms for interactive learning between course participants. Finally, the module outlines the key preparation you need to do, the range of tools provided in the course, and gives insight into methods for evaluating the course.
Course notes
By the end of this module you will be able to:
LO1: Discuss and apply the principles of problem-based experiential learning for adult courses
LO2: Prepare for and be able to facilitate a live-stream session on an online platform
LO3: Prepare and apply suitable training materials
LO4: Design an in-person training programme
LO5: Understand and apply the full range of tools available for this course
LO6: Understand various ways of evaluating a training course
Video 5.1: How to facilitate a training session
This section covers the method of delivering a live training session. Whether it is in- person or online, using a live element to supplement training can be of immense value to the participants of the course. The five key training elements will assist you in delivering an effective online course.
Video 5.2: How to facilitate a live online training session
As a trainer, you will need to use a variety of teaching/training methods, as learners have a wide range of learning styles, and as such, there is no clear guideline in selecting an appropriate training method. Method selection is a creative and analytical process and you will need to take many, very different issues into consideration. Being prepared for online and in-person training is of paramount importance, and careful preparing for an online course or session, with the possibility of technology challenges, is essential.
Video 5.3: Preparing a training course
The initial steps in the Training design cycle, include a Situation Analysis & Training Needs Assessment (TNA). Building on the results of the situation analysis and TNA, you will design your course outlining objectives, determining the training approach, developing the content and planning the sessions
