Highly engaging and motivating for students
Quizizz uses game-like elements (leaderboards, “power-ups,” fun backgrounds / memes, timed or untimed formats).
Flexible and customizable assessments & lessons
Teachers can build quizzes, polls, surveys, and even interactive presentations — not just simple multiple-choice tests.
There’s a large library of pre-made quizzes and resources, which can save prep time. Teachers can also tailor quizzes to match curriculum (e.g., BC Science 9, Science 10) and class needs. Quizizz also allows teachers to upload their lesson materials directly, and use AI to create relevant questions.
Works both synchronously (live in-class) and asynchronously (homework, self-paced review), giving teachers flexibility depending on the lesson design.
Useful for many types of learners and content areas
Works across grade levels and subject areas (K–12 and beyond) — whether science, language, vocabulary, reading comprehension, etc.
Can support special needs: translation tools, speech to text, font size, dyslexia font, reduced answer-option formats, which could help ELL students or students needing accommodations (may be beneficial but think about limitations such as students not wanting the accommodation).
Saves time!
It reduces the burden of manual grading (especially for formative assessments, exit tickets, and homework).
Some distracting or gamified features may not suit all students or content
Some may find “power-ups,” memes, and game-style elements distracting — especially when seriousness or deeper conceptual thinking is needed (e.g., long-answer reasoning, reflections, conceptual questions).
Free plan limitations & premium-feature gatekeeping
Certain useful features may require paid plans (e.g., storage, or full access to AI-generated content in Quizizz).
Risk of overemphasizing recall over higher-order thinking
Because it’s quiz-based, there is potential to focus too heavily on memorization, quick recall, or surface-level knowledge — less suited to tasks requiring critical thinking, explanation, synthesis, or open-ended responses.
For content that requires deep reasoning (e.g., bonds and molecular structure, Punnett squares, etc), a multiple-choice or quick quiz format may not capture students’ conceptual understanding fully.Â
Pre-made quizzes must be checked before! (especially with public/shared content)
If you rely on publicly available quizzes, there’s a chance of inaccuracies — you need to double-check questions before assigning.
Equity / access considerations
Because Quizizz requires internet and devices, students without stable internet at home or access to a device may be disadvantaged — especially if you assign quizzes as homework.
