For this project I have been assigned to find 2 different sources identifying cyber security incidents, summarize them, and properly credit the source.
This article explains that a health system named Kettering Health in Ohio was hit by a serious ransomware attack. A ransomware attack is where hackers take control of files and other personal data and demand a ransom in order to release their control. In this situation the hacker group known as "Interlock" had actually managed to stay undetected in the system for about a month. The hackers had locked up files but not only that they also claimed to have stolen 941 GB of data. The hackers then demanded a ransom from Kettering health in which Kettering health did not pay which then led to the hackers leaking all of the stolen data. It turns out all the stolen data that was leaked contained everything including social security numbers, passport numbers, medical records, and financial information Since this has happened in return Kettering health is offering credit monitoring and identity theft protection to everyone affected. In order to protect against these ransomware attacks you should be backing up your data, using a trusted security software, and keeping your software updated.

A cybersecurity firm named "Huntress" reported that hackers are exploiting three security vulnerabilities within Windows known as "Bluehammer" "Undefend" and "Redsun." These security flaws allow for hackers to gain access to affected computers. The security flaws were publicly disclosed by a researcher using the name "Chaotic Eclipse" who posted exploit code on GitHub following a disagreement with Microsoft. Microsoft has picked up the ball a little bit by patching one of three security flaws with that being "Bluehammer" but the others remain unpatched. To protect against hacking make sure to back up your data, never go on any suspicious sites, and use strong passwords for your accounts that cannot be guessed.

Completing this assignment I learned a whole bunch of new things i never knew about cybersecurity and how to protect myself against attacks. I learned about all the different types of cyber attacks there are like ransomware attacks, malware attacks, and hacking. I learned that everything you do on your computer matters and that you should always be cautious about any website because everything could be trying to take your data.
