I am fortunate to be part of the Astro Club at Fergusson College. The Astro Club has a rich history, with alumni spanning 25 years. Across India and even globally, many people recognize or are associated with our Astro Club. The Astro Club organizes numerous science outreach activities in the city, including poster exhibitions, workshops, and telescope handling sessions. I handle the public outreach for the club, and I am also one of the co-editors of the club's annual magazine, "Souvenir," which consists of unabridged research papers from our alumni.
Poster Exhibition is the first big event organised by the Astro Club where its volunteers presents scientific posters to common people and try to explain complicated concept of Astrophysics in a simpler terms.
Every year more than 1000+ visitors ,visit our posters and learn science from it. In the year 2023, I presented a poster on "Active Galactic Nuclei" and in the year 2024 i presented the semi-working model of Chandrayaan-3's lander and rover.
Frontiers in Physics (FiP) is the flagship event organized by the Astro Club of Fergusson College. FiP is a national-level, student-organized, two-day lecture seminar held on our college campus. During FiP, we invite professors from various institutes, such as IUCAA, IISERs, and IITs, to give talks related to their active research. We also provide an ADS kit to the participants, which contains abstracts of the talks, magazines with unabridged research papers from our alumni, and research articles from our current batch of students.
Every year for National Science Day, IUCAA Scipop chooses students from the Astro Club to volunteer. This year, I was fortunate to be selected as a volunteer for NSD24. My team and I created a semi-working, highly accurate model of Chandrayaan-3's lander and rover. It was an honor to be part of this project. After the event, we were invited to lunch by IUCAA's director, Srianand, to celebrate the successful completion of National Science Day.
Chandrayaan-3 Model
On National Science Day, February 28th, I had the amazing opportunity to present a semi-working model of Chandrayaan-3's lander and rover, thanks to the support of the Astroclub and IUCAA's Scipop.
Our team of four put a lot of effort into showcasing the model, More than 7000+ visitors visited IUCAA during NSD'24 and it was exciting to see it also featured in local news and on the social media pages of IUCAA and LIGO India.
Working with my teammates at IUCAA's Scipop workshop was such a memorable experience, and it's something I'll always treasure.
