I'm Gaurav Kumar, a recent Physics graduate from Fergusson College (Autonomous), Pune. I completed my undergraduate thesis under the mentorship of Prof. R. Srianand, Director of IUCAA, Pune, where I explored methods for estimating the masses of supermassive black holes using reverberation mapping techniques. Over the years, I've also been involved in several other research projects and internships — including a summer project at NISER Bhubaneswar, where I modelled the evolution of the universe using the Friedmann equations.
My primary research interests lie in active galactic nuclei (AGN), cosmology, and large-scale structures. I’m particularly fascinated by the intersection of observations and simulations in understanding galaxy formation and evolution. I've worked with data from surveys like SDSS, explored AGN variability, and studied spectral analysis techniques using Python and Astropy.
Beyond research, I’m deeply passionate about science communication and making the path to research more accessible to undergraduates. During college, I was a prominent member of the Astro Club, and I was also the NSD(National Science Day) Student Coordinator at IUCAA and was a volunteer for Pint of Science -India.
Outside the world of academia, I enjoy watching movies and web series, especially those with good storytelling and layered characters. I also love meeting new people and listening to their unique life stories — it’s something that constantly inspires me.
Also, to be in touch and post opportunities and updates my friends and I have made a WhatsApp community
where we regularly post opportunities and updates. Feel free to join If you're curious about research, want to explore opportunities, or just want to talk physics (or movies), feel free to reach out to me — I’m always happy to connect
